The Early Bronze II and III periods in the southern Levant remain mute. Fortified cities, palaces and temples testify to a sophisticated social and economic regime but the ethnic identification of the population(s) is still a mystery. The transition to Early Bronze III is marked archaeologically by the appearance of "Khirbet Kerak Ware", a special type of pottery, the style and manufacture of which originated in Armenia and the Caucasus.
