DAVID’S INITIAL CAMPAIGNS IN TRANSJORDAN, c. 1000 B.C.{{<br>}}
DEFEAT OF THE ARAMEAN COALITION AND THE CONQUEST OF RABBATH-BENE-AMMON, c. 1000 to 990 B.C.
David’s Transjordanian conquests may be traced chronologically by correlating the information in 2 Samuel 8:2–11 (= 1 Chr 18:2–11) with that of 2 Samuel 10:1–19, 11:1, 26–31 (= 1 Chr 19:1–19, 20:1–3). The course of events was apparently as follows:
Moab was conquered and reduced to vassal status, thus giving David firm control over the tableland north of the Arnon (2 Sam 8:2; 1 Chr 18:2).
