The story of the concubine at Gibeah

THE STORY OF THE CONCUBINE IN GIBEAH, 12th to 11th, Centuries B.C. The Book of Judges ends with the story of the fraternal war between Benjamin and the other Israelite tribes, following the ravishing of the concubine of a Levite at the hands of the people of Gibeah in Benjamin. The place name appears in various formulations, e.g. “the Gibeah” (Judg 19:13), “Gibeah which belongs to Benjamin” (Judg 19:14), “Gibeah of Benjamin” (1 Sam 13:2), “Gibeah of the Benjaminites” (2 Sam 23:29), “Gibeah of Saul” (1 Sam 11:4, 15:34; Isa 10:29), “Gibeath Elohim (of God)” (1 Sam 10:5; but LXX “the high place/hill of God”).
