Clans and towns / villages of the tribe of Greater Judah
CLANS AND TOWNS/VILLAGES OF THE TRIBE OF “GREATER” JUDAH
The genealogical tables of the various tribes include geographical information of great importance which can be classified under three headings:
Names of settlements mentioned among the genealogical records of the tribes and clans in the initial chapters of 1 Chronicles, which derive from different periods. This includes the list of Simeon's towns (1 Chr 4:28–33) and Simeonite expansion toward Gedor (LXX: Gerar) and Mount Seir (1 Chr 4:39–43); the Reubenite settlements “in (from?) Aroer, as far as Nebo and Baal-meon” and his eastward expansion “as far as the entrance of the desert this side of the Euphrates” (1 Chr 5:8–10); the border towns of Ephraim and Manasseh (1 Chr 7:28–29); the history of the Beriah clan which was associated with Gath, Aijalon and Beth-horon (1 Chr 7:21–24, 8:13); the building of Ono and Lod by Benjaminite clans (1 Chr 8:12).
