Rabbi Abraham Israel Gellis was born in 1951. He studied at the Hebron Yeshiva in Jerusalem and became an ordained rabbi. He was active in the organizations Or Same’ach, Yad LaAchim, Hevrutah and Na’aseh VeNishma. In other fields, Rabbi Gellis was among the founders of the Yated Ne’eman newspaper, an editor of the Erev Shab- bat newspaper and senior editor of the Mishpacha weekly. He headed Maskil LeDavid, an international institute for matters of kashrut. He was also adviser to the Minister of Religious Affairs, Shimon Shitrit, and is an editor of radio programs for Reshet Bet of the Israel Broadcasting Authority and Kol Chai.
